Exploring ISTE Coaching Standards

In one of my first blog posts I quoted from John Donne’s MEDITATION XVII:

No man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main.

How true this has proved to be over the past two years as I have leaned on the wisdom and encouragement of my lovely cohort for every module of this program; but also prophetic, as little did I know how influential the ISTE standards would prove to be in my own digital leadership journey.

Digging into the meaning and purpose of each ISTE standard and indicator has helped me to improve my own craft of teaching, and also given me the tools to encourage my colleagues and our school to pursue forward-looking learning and teaching. 

Reflecting on my thoughts regarding my mission statement in that post from December 2019, I can now see that the ISTE standards are an invaluable tool to measure how successfully I am working out my own mission.

My mission is to build trust-filled relationships with faculty and students as I coach, support and encourage them to successfully apply innovative teaching and learning practices with courage and compassion which in turn will allow our students to learn, flourish and effect change in our community and the world.
